Price question: what style might it be if an album is called “Wielder Of The Steel”? Completely correct, traditional Heavy Metal (Dammit! My first guess was actually Reggae. Oh well, that has to be another proof that I’m getting old… – Frank). This is the debut by PHAËTHON from the United Kingdom and during the first few minutes I was a bit confused because the vocalist sounds a bit different than the typical Heavy Metal singers. But that is exactly what makes the eight songs so charming. Some people may call the vocal performance poor and feeble, but for me the vocals perfectly fit to the more rough and rude musical approach. The focus is less on sophisticated compositions and more on aspects such as joy of playing and an unbridled desire for playing Heavy Metal. If there are people who prefer over-produced, polished albums, please do. What I particularly like is the dynamic that the quartet unleashes. This is exactly the spirit that makes you bang your head and raise your fists in the air. Contact via www.facebook.com/phaethonband and www.facebook.com/gatesofhellrecords
