Formed from the ashes of the Swedish cult act Crematory, Regurgitate have been, without any doubt, one of the biggest influences on the Goregrind / Grindcore scene of all times. Their first effort, “Effortless Regurgitation…” was one of the purest and dirtiest Grind albums ever released, and when they came back with “Carnivorous Erection” they demonstrated they still were one of the most promising bands in their style. After a MCD, they released their third album, entitled “Deviant”, where it seemed they were a bit tired of the Gore term, going in a more Grindcore direction, with less heavy tempos, just straight to the face, reminding the first NAPALM DEATH albums, or UNSEEN TERROR (including a cover of them), TERRORIZER and all those great bands. But with this new work the have taken again the path of Gore, with the gurgling deep pitched vocals (together with the high-pitched ones), some groovy riffs and the old bloody feeling, perhaps with some of the ideas of the previous album on some songs, but goregrinding without mercy. They still sound so low, lower than on the two previous recordings I think, but have a good and crunchy production, fucking powerful, and crush everything on their path, although it’s pure Regurgitate like always. So don’t search anything new here, only the purest and most sickening brutality in 26 shots to your brain, so fast that you can’t see them arrive. Furthermore, the cover is quite provocative too, but this time they used a picture, instead of a drawing, which looks just perfect for this brutal recording. Grind on! www.relapse.com.
