Sounds like a Sumerian demon or suchlike, but in fact “selcouth” is an archaic adjective meaning strange, unusual or unfamiliar. Something that is not common and a bit extraordinary. Contrary to the band’s name, the style of the duo from Italy is anything but unknown. Deep and guttural vocals, hard-hitting drums, vigorous bass and distinguished Death Metal riffs. Performed at a fairly fast speed, while the technical finesse and a certain morbid atmosphere is not neglected. This three track EP is the first release by SELCOUTH and having this in mind, the dense sound is a bit surprising but of course mostly welcome. While listening to “Selcouth” more than once the name HATE ETERNAL appeared in my mind. Less as a source of inspiration but more in the way that SELCOUTH move on the same level. Finest brutal, technical Death Metal. Since HATE ETERNAL have not dropped any new album since “Upon Desolate Sands” back in 2018 fans of the band should take a listen. But also, if you like IMMOLATION, NILE, KRISIUN or ANGELCORPSE you should get involved with the band. The EP is released by the well-known underground label Iron, Blood And Death Corporation and that gives me hope SELCOUTH won’t get lost in the ever flowing stream of new releases.
