Flesh Burns

In the last years, the good old cassette tape had its comeback, not a triumphant one, but the tapes are back as a dear loved medium of the underground. There are even some new labels that specialize in tape releases like German Caco-Daemon Records. Their releases are strictly limited, mostly to 50 copies only, and made with dedication. Like in this case of the Australian Grindcore newbies UNBOUND. The release of their first demo “Flesh Burns” is also limited to 50 copies, 25 each in white and purple, and it comes with a professionally printed and 2-sided inlay and a linen certificate inked with pig blood and ash. The tapes themselves are marked with real blood, hopefully it’s pig blood too. So much for real and authentic underground enthusiasm. But it’s not the tape itself that only matters here, it’s the music on that tape. And this music is good, raw and bloody food for those of you who like their Grindcore the old school way, with the stress on the suffix “core”. UNBOUND have definitely learned a lesson in Hardcore as well as in Metal. Their stuff sounds like some old Crossover band teaming up with old British Grind and Stenchcore bands. Just few other bands came to mind when I listened to the six songs of the tape, like ABC DIABOLO for the slower parts, sometimes CITIZENS ARREST or very old IMPULSE MANSLAUGHTER. So you might figure out that UNBOUND sound pretty unique for present times and in the long run, songs like ‘Morbid Freaks’, ‘Births Eulogy’ or ‘Only Dead’ become a real joy. If you’re digging for obscure gems, the Aussie four piece should be a band for you!
