With WELTNACHT we have a brand new one man project, started just about a month or two ago and their first musical sign, “Das Irrlicht”, features three quite long songs, running 6 to 7 minutes. And the most unusual thing about these three songs is the fact that they are instrumental only performances. Unsure if this is on purpose, I can state a certain potential here. The gloomy and atmospheric interpretation of Black Metal WELTNACHT present us on “Das Irrlicht” has some fine moments for sure. Yet I definitely miss some vocals here, as especially ‘Withered Bones’ and ‘Three Moons Ago’ have a lot of parts that would sound a lot better with vocals added. The final ‘Pale Branches’ with its very effective keyboards is not only the song that works best as an instrumental, but it’s also my personal highlight on “Das Irrlicht”. After listening to the three songs here a few times, I will keep the name WELTNACHT in mind for sure.
