AMMIT
Mass Suicide / Steel Inferno
(From Beyond Productions / Displeased Records)
70:19min

Wow! Another value-for-money release by Displeased Records’ sublabel From Beyond Productions: over 70 minutes of music, in an appealing package with lots of info, lyrics, what else can you want? Of course you should have a soft spot for infernal, primitive Black / Thrash inspired by HELLHAMMER, VENOM, old BATHORY and SARCOFAGO to enjoy this collection of Chilean underground act AMMIT’s entire recordings apart from the "Extreme Speed Satan" album on Warhammer Records. The CD spinning on my sacrificial altar contains the band’s 2000 demo "Mass Suicide" (9 tracks), the 1998 demo "Steel Inferno" (also 9 tracks) and three new songs recorded in 2004. The "Mass Suicide" tracks are pretty entertaining, faster and more capturing than the "Steel Inferno" demo and unfortunately the new songs as well, whose only quality is their infantile charm and the absence of musical quality. I really like the harsh sound, the effective songwriting, the horrible English and morbid, desecrating atmosphere of "Mass Suicide", but I expected more of the rest. If bands like BLOODHAMMER, INCRIMINATED or GRAVEWÜRM mean something to you AMMIT might be of interest for you, too, it is definitely something very very underground, filled with energy and spirit, but not much musical skill… Give this horde a chance and check the sound file on www.displeasedrecords.com or write them an email via ammitisdead@hotmail.com.
