DEAD CHASM

DEAD CHASM from Italy were unknown to me so far, so it was good to hear their first EP “Carved Into Obscurity”. The title track delivers obscure and thick Doom / Death Metal in the vein of CRUCIAMENTUM and GRAVE MIASMA, but here and there I also hear some DECOMPOSED or even old ASPHYX. The second track ‘Spawned In Desolation’ continues in the same direction and follows the left hand path. Especially the slower Doom parts are really enjoyable and the thick and powerful production flatters the matured songwriting. The third track ‘Left Unknown’ starts slowly and doomy as hell with deep grunts and a menacing atmosphere. Later on they increase the speed and deliver another hellish track which closes slow but menacing as hell. Rounded off by a nice cover of ‘Slumber’ from Swedish legends NIRVANA 2002, this EP is a good taster for hopefully more to come. Fans of the mentioned bands should definitely check these Italian warriors out. For more info, please check one of the following sources: www.facebook.com/deadchasm, www.facebook.com/fdarec
