DEAD CHASM

Italian Doom Death riders DEAD CHASM have just cranked out their debut album, one year after their intriguing self titled EP hit the market. Hailing from the northern part of Italy the band is lead by female vocalist / guitarist Lorenza and has a history of jamming with other prior bands. The trio was quickly signed to F.D.A. Records as these elite killers brought the kind of music that F.D.A. is known for signing. Let’s dive into this debut album of seven tracks in just under 33 minutes. Right from the start I get a very strong late ’90s / early 2000s era INCANTATION vibe. The vocals are on point with brutality and with crushing tunes that would make anyone bang their head. The music is not overwhelming and keeps a steady tempo throughout the album. The production is very clear and you can easily distinguish each instrument (my only gripe is the bass drums could have been louder). The first two songs on the album ‘Apparitions’ and ‘In Abhorrent Obscurity’ set the ambiance for the rest of the album. The drums are just devastating and take a scorched Earth approach. Things slow down a bit during ‘Ethereal Fragments’ with intermittent slow tempos, but then quickly pick back up during the next track ‘Impious Embrace’. Rounding out the album are the final two songs, ‘Sulphuric Asphyxiation’ and ‘Innumerable Dimensions’. Both are solid songs to go out on your shield. ‘Sulphuric…’ starts off with a slow guitar riff that then quickly turns into a full onslaught of audio aggression. The vocals are on point here and kick things up a notch. ‘Innumerable…’ finishes things off with a STONE COLD STUNNER style jam that will leave you laid out on the ground dazed and in utter disbelief. Solid work by the band on this album, you get all the elements you would expect from a good Death Metal release. In summary we have here a killer debut album that will easily resonate with fans of INCANTATION, IMMOLATION, and at times SUFFOCATION. I would dare to even say this album would easily fit in during the early 2000s Death Metal era with much fanfare, had the band been around in those days. Honestly you can’t go wrong with this album. I really dug this album and highly recommend you check this out and be ready to get crushed! For more info: www.facebook.com/deadchasm, www.facebook.com/fdarec
