Sickening Dreams

Two years after the release of their debut EP "Absolution Through Dissolution“, DEMORED return with their first full-length "Sickening Dreams“ and I was pretty curious to hear their development. Still inspired by the US Death Metal scene, the band has developed their style and sound very matured now. The opener ‘Bodyswap‘ starts with a long scream and blast-beats and offers already very solid old school Death Metal with an ever-pounding double-bass, deep grunts and really solid guitar work, varying in speed between slow and fast. Especially the slow parts really give this track a memorable note as they go in a very melodic direction then with a slight Gothic / Death note before the blast-beat thunderstorm starts again. ‘From Life To Anchor‘ continues this direction and offers another neckbreaking wrecking ball. Same goes for ‘Omnious Venesection‘ which also has a pretty cool groove and the grunts get varied by some well-done screams again. ‘Interlude 1‘ is a nice string based instrumental but for me it does not really fit in at this place even though it eases the way to the slowly starting follower ‘Drenched In Dysphoria‘ which is really the best track on the album and maybe the best one the band has written so far. It offers all what good Death Metal is standing for. A very memorable melody line, speed changes, varied vocals and damn good drumming. A really cool track and worth to check to get a hint about the band’s potential. ‘One With The Dead‘ is pretty groovy again and could also fit on a NECROPHAGIST album but I prefer Magnus vocals here. ‘Sickening Dreams‘ is more brutal and gets closed by the second instrumental ‘Interlude 2‘ which is well done and sounds like a horror movie theme but would have fitted better as intro for the album. The last three tracks offer the same quality and spread a HYPOCRISY vibe before the band closes with an stringed outro. Rounded off by a very cool cover artwork from Juanjo Castellano you can do nothing wrong in pre-ordering the album.
