China’s capital Beijing is the right place where you can find loads and loads of new underground Metal bands as an eternal stream coming towards you if you have some time to do some research on the internet. DINKUMOIL is a Chinese trio that seems to love playing some sort of a blend of NWOBHM and Speed Metal – and what’s actually so great about them, they also do this style pretty well. How could one go wrong with the ancient sounds of PRIEST, MAIDEN and many others from those days that started it all? All the energies that they have managed to pump into the DINKUMOIL machine, also put their songs flying freely in a relatively positive way, just to cause some pleasant listening experiences for the fans of up-tempo-ish, speedy NWOBHM. At least that’s exactly what DINKUMOIL succeeded in bringing to my house lately. This is seriously all round good and very impulsively played stuff, having clearly a lot of passion and dedication towards the yesteryear’s of Heavy Metal. They suck badly at the English language, vocalist Li sounds like he cannot sing one line properly enough and the production from the drums’ part at least is pretty much awful, the drums sounding like Chen could be drumming in a gospel band or something. But despite of this all ‘constructive negativism’ so to speak, I found DINKUMOIL’s "Metal Weld" album a somewhat entertaining album for myself all in all. By all means check them out if you are just curious enough to expand your horizon out of your comfort zone in Heavy Metal in general. There surely is some emerging potential there in this Chinese trio DINKUMOIL.
