DINKUMOIL / THE PUNISHER
Underground NWOBHM Bands & Public Servants
(Dying Legion)
36:29min

Another split release of 2 Chinese very different Metal bands, DINKUMOIL that clearly trust some roots of NWOBHM – and then THE PUNISHER whose road is made more of intensity, aggression and heaviness. They play a mix of a relatively technical Thrash Metal and Heavy Metal. So we have got a pretty nice combination of two somewhat totally different styles really on one disc, pretty much. DINKUMOIL’s own comfort zone includes also a good dose of intensity, provided by their rocking and fast-paced Heavy Metal that salutes bands like DEMON, early MAIDEN, early HELLOWEEN, early GRAVE DIGGER and many others, with open arms. This is definitely refreshing and easy-going stuff, without any modern technology’s ugly ghost ruining DINKUMOIL’s own journey in the wonderland of early Heavy Metal. Good stuff. As for THE PUNISHER, this 5-piece Chinese group attacks mercilessly towards us with their partly groovy, technical Thrash. These Chinese lads do have a good attempt to thrash their way right into our hearts – and for good obviously but without forgetting some facts there’s still a long road for them to be traveled to gain enough people’s attention, as they tend to sound a bit clumsy and even amateur-ish here and there. Such songs like ‘Rebirth Flame’ and ‘Gears Of War’ give them some hope for better things ahead of them but then again Fan Bo, THE PUNISHER’s vocalist, should also try to improve his vocalism quite a bit as he’s the weakest link of the band at the moment actually. The production on the disc is tolerable, so I don’t start poking at them about what they should do next time and what not, production wise. Let’s just leave it at that this time. http://site.douban.com/dinkumoil, http://site.douban.com/punisher, label: www.underfm.com/dyingart/english/discography/trade.htm
