When I receive a recording of a band that nowadays is labeled as Thrash Metal, well, I usually end up being disappointed. Why? Well, to an old bastard like me, no matter which obscure band of the 80s the band tries to emulate, I will detect it. And most of the bands try to copy their idols instead of following the style. Something that seems to be the same thing, but it is not. Do not ask me how, but I can smell a crap copy band to a good tribute band. To me to have a new KREATOR or a new SLAYER will be no problem if the band follows a path set forth and not just rehashes the riffs. That’s the real difference. And that can be heard from the very first riffs. And in this case, with the second album of German Thrashers DUST BOLT, these guys are doing it right. They sound to me like many Bay Area and German Thrash bands, yes, but instead of just copying they try to follow a path of their own. I can hear some HEATHEN, TESTAMENT, VIO-LENCE, VENDETTA, METALLICA and the list can go on but with a very aggressive edge. This is what I can call Thrash Metal (and not the new EXODUS album, which was not that bad, but inferior to this one…). Alongside country mates GUMMO MANIACS, a band worth listening to. Some serious riffs here and there and they avoid the mosh- for just-fun-riffs of other mediocre Thrash / Hardcore bands that actually are a joke. And doing an EVIL DEAD cover adds just points to them. www.facebook.com/dustbolt, www.napalmrecords.com
