FOSSILIZATION
He Whose Name Was Long Forgotten
(Everlasting Spew Records)
24:56min

FOSSILIZATION are an atmospheric Death / Doom band based in Sao Paulo, Brazil. “He Whose Name Was Long Forgotten” is their first ever release and Everlasting Spew Records again manages to find something of killer quality and put it out there for the fans. FOSSILIZATION is a project of JUPITERIAN members and they manage to differentiate their newer project enough by virtue of approach and quality. Clocking at just about 25 minutes, FOSSILIZATION’s debut is essentially a slow long walk in the post apocalyptic world with little to no visibility and filled with unbreathable air. The band manages to completely create a droning atmosphere with dense guitars to engulf you and take you along in their journey through the wretched lands. Before we proceed any further, we need to talk about the cover art for this release. This is perhaps the best representation of what’s underneath and fits in beautifully. I suppose the length of this release comes as a boon on this occasion, it is the ideal time to be engaging with such an atmosphere. The dissonance and the pummelling can take a toll, however FOSSILIZATION manage to just about reach the boundary and not push it beyond. It works just fine in this case. Track 3 ‘Caronte’ is perhaps their best representation, a dull ray of light in a dingy tunnel for navigation. It slowly builds itself to simply shatter that image later, easily the most intense of all tracks on this release. Recommended!
