The Whitecrow
(Einheit Produktionen)

I have known about this band for long. They are people that were involved in KRABATHOR, another band from the Czech Republic. I have heard KRABATHOR more than a few times, a band were even a legend as Mr. Paul Speckmann was once a member… and I think he later took on the members of that band for MASTER. “The Whitecrow” is the last album of this band that is almost 20 years old by now (the band, not the album ; -) – Frank). And it does show. Yes, they do play Death Metal, but with a lot of difference. And they are very heavy and at the same time very atmospheric. They remind me in that aspect of the early ATHEIST not in that they play very technical, but in the overall atmosphere they create (probably because these guys play extremely tight and are blessed with a very strong production! – Frank). Also, they remind me at times of ROOT specially from their killer album “Madness Of The Graves”. References to bands like NEVERMORE and some touches of old FATES WARNING can be traced there, and yet they have an identity of their own. One can also sense some evil Black Metal touches here and there, but the final result is just fascinating (even though I personally can’t hear those elements in their music, I totally agree that it’s really fascinating and I see it more in league with bands like newer BEHEMOTH and the likes! – Frank). It is an album in that you will discover new things every time you listen to it. Also, I am not sure but I sense there is a certain concept history behind this album. Both the ‘Prologue’ and ‘Epilogue’ that are spoken words (and done by Paul Speckmann) kinda set the mood for the album. I have heard the band before and they were a good Death Metal band, but surely nothing out of the ordinary. Well, this changes my view a lot. Shows that Death Metal still can create something, no matter if it takes things form other styles, but merging them with such class as this and yet still remaining true to their evil origin. A very interesting release worth more than a listen. More about HYNOS at www.facebook.com/hypnoscz, label contact: www.einheit-produktionen.de
