Whew! OF DARKNESS were founded in 2004 in Barcelona, Spain. These extreme Death / Doom loonies recorded this 2 song demo (!!) shortly after (take a quick look at the playing time). So this is mainly low tuned guitars and deeeep growls plus some spheric synthies. For my taste they simply overdo their approach. Well, maybe I’m not nihilistic enough but I simply can’t keep my mind concentrated on this. Tried many times but: no fucking chance! The drum computer annoys me quite a bit anyway. But don’t get me wrong: this is really well done, the vocals (?) are strong and never ridiculous and I also like the guitars. Apart from the B-O-R-I-N-G, bad sounding drums, this is really something but it completely fails to captivate me and somehow I have the feeling that’s because I can’t concentrate anymore as I used to. What I found out about “Death” is that it’s excellent, spooky background music for reading some horror novel as it doesn’t draw my attention from the pages. So it’s kind of a cool soundtrack for a (more or less) good book. Does that mean these guys found a niche in the market? Some ESOTERIC worshippers might dig this, I guess.
