SUN OF THE DYING
A Throne Of Ashes

Doom Metal… old school Doom Metal… which is basically Doom / Death Metal, but with a quite good variety of influences to give the overall sound a cinematic vibe, much like the essence of bands from The Netherlands in the ’90s. “Always…” being the masterpiece where all are compared to and yes, this band has many things with that style: female vocals here and there, some clean vocals here and there, a lot, I mean A LOT of emotion and sadness, with the impending feeling that something is going to happen and played mostly at a slow, melodramatic tempo. And if that was the goal of this band, well, they hit it with deadly precision. The deathly vocals are really good and one is able to feel the emotions that the lyrics transmit, which are backed up in a great way with an atmospheric essence. The way they compose, probably take away a bit of heaviness, but at the same time it feels the right way, as the atmosphere is what really takes control. For my personal taste, a bit more faster parts would work better, yet as it is, I find it to have many interesting parts, and the use of keyboards is intelligent and actually adequate to create that somber doom darkness that feels imminent to arrive. This is the third album and it shows that the band, coming from Spain, really knows their business. Fans of the style will surely get engulfed in the flames of the burning sun. A very interesting and hypnotic album, that grows everytime slowly, and captures an essence long lost in time. www.facebook.com/sunofthedying, www.facebook.com/aoprecs
