Norway has always had a very particular way of creating and understanding Black Metal. And when it comes to channeling the esoteric and the deepest human emotions, I think they have always been decisive. History proves that. When I listen to URARV, this band that was born in Oslo, I immediately perceive the feeling of being in front of a great Black Metal band, with that feeling that is only produced when you have in front of you a band that has spent more than two decades faithful to its vision. In this album, “Nychta Psychis”, the vocal and guitar falls on Aldrahn, who along with Sakis on the other guitar builds the entire string framework of the group. They are joined by Sturt on bass and Tybalt on drums, completing a line-up in which each instrument has its own space and purpose. This album titled “Nychta Psychis”, released on CD just this October 2026 under Darkness Shall Rise Productions, is simply spectacular. Going back to their history, this third full-length arrives after a path that began to materialize in 2016 with the demo “Promo 2016”, continuing in 2017 with the album “Aurum”, in 2018 with the EP “Argentum” and in 2023 with their second full-length album, “Substratum”. All that journey, added to the singles released in 2023 and 2026, leads today to an album of 32:39 minutes divided into five songs. It starts with ‘Dødheimsgard’, which was also presented as a single in this 2026 and that right from the beginning takes us into the proposal of the Norwegians. Then we jump to ‘Nychta Psychis’, the title track of the album and which concentrates a large part of that emotional and esoteric idea that moves the fibers of everything around us when listening to this album. I like the initial atmosphere. Those acoustic guitars and how the voice appear of nowhere, always theatrical, tragic and melancholic. I also like that it took me to KING DIAMOND when singing in the way Aldrahn does it. Brutal! And of course, in the middle of that malevolent voice of a possessed warlock. It fascinates me. The third place is occupied by ‘When Consciousness Identifies With Matter It Is Lost’, a piece that from its very name already puts in a serious question while unfolds at an accelerated pace to then fall into a theatrical and agonizing abyss to later fill with fury and undulating between chaos, fury and slow and cosmic sounds. This is the longest track on the album and concentrates that identity of the band, exposing its DNA. After that ‘Operation Genocide’ appears, which sustains the coherence and style of the album without letting its guard down at any moment. It is overwhelming. And to finish these more than 32 minutes of music we have ‘Youniverse’, the fifth track with which the album closes. The same here, they just send a clear, frontal and powerful message to those who want to listen to this band. Without any doubt, “Nychta Psychis” is a release worth paying all possible attention to. To be honest, I see it as one of my favorite ones this year and I will be expecting what happens from here.
