Tragedies - Liber Hermetis

I find it almost poetic that this album, “Tragedies – Liber Hermetis”, originally released in 2011, has found its way back into the world, being the first one of the band 14 years ago. And I feel that YSENGRIN’s debut full-length was never an album meant for mass consumption; it was something intimate, mysterious and deeply personal, underground is what I’m trying to say. Maybe, when it was first released, it slipped quietly in silence, known mostly to those into the kind of music that hides meaning behind… symbolism. Now, through the efforts of Caverna Abismal Records, this re-release allows the album to be rediscovered and appreciated in the way it always deserved. The fact that this is a remastered edition presented in a carefully designed digipak with an expanded booklet makes all the difference. It shows respect for the album and for the band. This is not about simple nostalgia and that’s it, it’s about preserving something that has weight deep inside. “Tragedies – Liber Hermetis” sounds relevant and current actually. In a musical landscape often dominated by repetition and superficiality, YSENGRIN’s debut full-length stood the test of time. When I listen to this album, I see how much of YSENGRIN’s identity was already present from the very beginning. The blending of Doom / Black / Death Metal is here to guide our intuition. The mastermind, Guido Saint Roch, managed to create something that feels ancient and cohesive, like an echo from forgotten ages finding new resonance in the present. And for the band I guess “Tragedies – Liber Hermetis” became for sure the primary essence for what YSENGRIN would later explore in albums like “To Endotaton” or “Initiatio”. Because there, you can hear the early stages of that philosophical depth and ritualistic sound that surrounds the band activity throughout the years. Well, I think this re-release will give a lot of people the opportunity to witness the beginning of a journey that has always been guided by mystery. For followers of the band, it’s a chance to revisit the album, anyway… More info here: www.facebook.com/ysengrin.official, www.facebook.com/cavernaabismalrec
