ANCIENTBLOOD
The Profane Hymns Of The Sovereign Darkness
(Black Hate Productions)

This four song opus of darkness is actually the re-release of one of the demos of this Brazilian band on MCD. They play a mid-tempo form of raw, yet somehow melodic Black Metal, with really pissed off vocals. Comparing this to DARKTHRONE is probably a good reference. Although this was recorded for a demo, the sound is more than competent, just for my taste the guitar sound could be louder. It might be me, but I can also detect some MOTÖRHEAD influences here and there, and now to think about it the vocals are in the early BURZUM vein, although a bit more tolerable. There are only four songs here, with the last one ‘Profane Devotion’ being the best one, which shows more of a Thrash Metal approach, although maintaining the Norwegian Black Metal influences all the way. If you are a fan of the mentioned bands, you will surely enjoy this one, as – although quite unoriginal, it is enjoyable. Supposedly a full-length is expected soon and if they came to a natural progression (let’s say minimal and just a better production) it will be interesting. Oh, and the band name is not to be separated as ANCIENT BLOOD, it s ANCIENTBLOOD, yep, all together. www.blackhate.de
