IRONFLAME from Ohio, USA are – or better – is around for a while, so there’s a big chance that if you follow what’s going on in the Heavy Metal underground, you already know that name, or seen it couple of times. IRONFLAME was founded in 2016, and it’s a band / project of Andrew D’Cagna, current singer of ICARUS WITCH and an underground Metal maniac. The word “maniac” makes a lot of sense here, as Andrew not only recorded all vocals for “Worlds To Conquer”, but all the instruments as well, plus he mixed and mastered the album. “Worlds To Conquer” includes a solid dose of Heavy Metal – I wanted to write “traditional”, but truth is that it sounds very much like a new, very current production. Not exactly modern, as the album sounds very in-your-face (almost aggressive), but it definitely hasn’t this old school / retro vibe, which is characteristic for many of the so called “New Wave Of Traditional Heavy Metal” titles. More of Peavey 5150 and less of Marshalls, if you will allow me this super nerdy comment. If I would need to compare IRONFLAME to some other acts, I would drop names such as HOLY GRAIL, maybe TWISTED TOWER DIRE and VISIGOTH, but as the songs are super melodic, they also bring to mind acts such as HAMMERFALL or HELLOWEEN. So yes, IRONFLAME is walking this thin line between Heavy and Power Metal, and do that with a charm. The album is very enjoyable, as simple as that. Good songs, good melodies, that stay in your head and good riffing. You can’t expect anything new over here – okay, the occasional blast beats are not something you hear on Power or Heavy Metal albums very often – but that’s good. We don’t expect Heavy Metal to be innovative or revealing, we want it to take us back to familiar places, and that’s exactly what’s happening here. And for the record: Andrew sometimes gather a bunch of friends, who are his backing band live on stage and plays concerts.
