ANHAGUAMA is one of those names that’s been lurking in the underground for 18 years now, keeping the flame of raw Death / Black Metal burning in its purest, most unholy form. Formed back in 2007 in Arujá, São Paulo, these maniacs have always walked the left hand path, and “Formula Of Zos Vel Thanatos” is just a testament to their dedication to darkness. This nine track CD released independently, brings together their latest EP, “Formula Of Zos Vel Thanatos” from 2022 and adds their earliest blasphemy, “In Alliance With The Fallen Angels” EP from 2008, creating a ritual of chaos and death all around. “Formula Of Zos Vel Thanatos” is not an easy ride, but it’s not meant to be. It starts with absolute chaos, always lurking beneath the surface. You have the sensation that everything is about to fall apart when you’re inside this ritual. I see it as a twisted dance between violence and obscurity, something ANHAGUAMA has mastered over the years and something I’m always looking for. And it’s enough to listen to any of their songs to see what I’m saying. I have found very interesting the balance ANHAGUAMA is able to set between that primal rage of early Death Metal with the cold atmosphere of Black Metal, all while throwing in moments of classic Thrash Metal and even Heavy Metal in the background, if you pay close attention. Listen to the structures behind. You’ll see it! The fact that this release also includes their first recordings makes an interesting contrast as well. You can hear where they came from and witness that their vision was always there, dark, blasphemous and fully rooted in the underground.
