Oh, yeah! Time for Epic Heavy Metal! Fucking love it! BATTLEROAR is an Epic Heavy Metal band from Greece formed in 2000 and (at this point) they need no introductions, I think. For me, getting this new material from them has been such a fantastic pleasure. I have mentioned it many times, whenever I see the word “Epic” attached to Heavy Metal, I instantly anticipate majestic battles and myths. Well, the Greeks are back with this new full-length titled “Petrichor”. An album that opens up with a triumphant atmosphere that will last until the end. This is an album with a sound that catches our souls from its beginning, playing a lot with emotions through classic guitar solos, violin or constant synths surrounded by phenomenal vocals. “Petrichor” presents compositions that strive to sustain that dualism between harmonious and heroic chants against instruments that showcase the suffering of fate. The title “Petrichor” evaporates that smell of the earth after the rain, or in this case, after the battle. It is essentially the progression of an intensification that BATTLEROAR intends to conquer and finally does. The tracks are very Epic Metal around Power Metal blood, with the imprint of classic Heavy Metal. I found it very well balanced. BATTLEROAR constitutes an entity that understands exactly how to go to the war. It appears to be an album that does not abandon a riff, a chord, a note, or a drum hit to chance. Every detail is in its place. The compositions are fluid, moving from sensations, visions and images that will remain in the eye, constantly speeding up and slowing down the exact moment, preserving that persistent energy and feeling that you can recognize from this band. “Petrichor” is definitely an album full of stories. And I’ll get to the concluding lines, saying that BATTLEROAR maintains the movement of Epic Heavy Metal with an album that carries the blueprint led by the classics, charged with epicness and instruments that dream the battles, the scenes around realms of chaos, death and myth. In summary, we are facing an excellent album, which exudes an epicity of a very high technical level and extremely well elaborated. Just listen to it!
