BURNING ABYSS
Issue # 666
(56 pages, A4, printed, in English)

This issue is already a bit dated (it was released on June 30, 2008), but as we just received a copy of it, we figured we should still give it a mention, nevertheless. BURNING ABYSS is a very cool underground zine from Poland, that has been around since 1996 already, but this is their first issue that’s written entirely in English. The layout and printing looks totally professional, yet maintains a certain dark underground feel to it… The content will easily appeal to every fan of old school Black and Death Metal and the bands that got interviewed shouldn’t really be strangers to those who enjoy reading our zine as well: DEATH BREATH (SWE), VULCANO (BRA), DEAD CONGREGATION (GRE), THRONEUM (POL), MANTICORE (USA), MANDATORY (GER), NOMAD (POL), AFGRUND (SWE), PANZERFAUST ‘ZINE (POL), APOCALYPTIC VISIONS (USA), BLOODWRITTEN (POL), INSEMINATOR (POL), UNDERDARK (POL) and REPOSSESSION (POL). Of course you’re also getting a shitload of reviews (unfortunately, as so often, they could be a whole lot more critical) and sections like "Burning Classics" and "From The Forgotten Abyss" that feature reviews of classic releases that everyone definitely should own or at least check out (again). What I find pretty superfluous is the news section (there’s no point in doing something like that if you’re running a zine that’s only being released once a year or less). Another (minor) point of criticism is the partly used very small letter size in some of the interviews, especially in those that come up with a totally black or rather graphical background… even though the printing quality is very good, it’s a bit difficult to read it here and there. So maybe a brighter background (or bigger font size, like it was used in the rest of the issue) would help here. Apart from that – a very cool zine that I definitely enjoyed reading a lot. I guess it’s needless to say that it’s already sold out from editor Maciej directly, but you still may find it in some mailorder lists (check out the "Archives" section on www.abyss.opoczno.net for a complete list). All further info on the zine or ordering details you may also get through their myspace site www.myspace.com/burningabysszine or via email b_abyss@interia.pl
