AMANITE is the definition of some kind of mushroom that can go from a delicacy to some others that are poisonous and hallocinogen. Actually the lyrical theme of the band is in connection with nature and it is told in 10 songs of old school Death Metal, that draws influences from bands like ASPHYX, MASSACRE and AUTOPSY, to name a few. It has a sound that relies mostly in mid tempo rhythms and sometimes adding a bit of speed. Curiously, some songs remind of a couple of Mexican bands from the ’90s. ‘Hexenkreis’ for example sounded to my ears a lot like ARGENTUM, with a subtle use of keyboards and one very good and deathly vocal delivery of this French duo, while the song ‘Cursed By The Frost’ sounds a lot like UNDER MOONLIGHT SADNESS who had a bit of Viking inspired sounds. Go Google those bands for a bit of ’90s class in killer obscure Metal. Most of the songs here have that touch and with a few but well constructed riffs, are able to create a heavy and ominous atmosphere. At times they also reminded me of their countrymates of CATACOMB, with a very heavy guitar sound and also using the bass not only as a low tuned played guitar, but also doing things around the music, having a very effective sound, which definitely recalls the best era of Death Metal in the ’90s. I can also sense a bit of old school Black Metal, like early SAMAEL, DIMMU BORGIR and a bit of symphonic EMPEROR, but always with the Death Metal sound as the reigning king. Special mention to vocalist Nox Venenum for giving a great delivery, that reminds of many of great Death Metal vocalists from the ’90s, but with a touch of its own. After a few listenings, this is undoubtedly a release that will make old Deatheads bang the little hair remaining, while bringing memories from the past into our actual times. I enjoyed this a lot and hopefully we will have more of this band in the future. www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61595110724040, www.facebook.com/greatdanerecords
