CASKET
In The Long Run, We Are All Dead

I mention in another review how everyday people crave or look for the staples in our food habits. Be it a good standard burger or a cheesy pizza with our favorite toppings or even just a good ol ‘ice cold beer. We know what we like, it may be standard and run of the mill, but it continues to suit and satisfy us. When all is said and done it’s just plain dependable and obviously enjoyable. The music of CASKET is much like what I describe above. CASKET brings us a form of meat and potatoes Death Metal that touches upon many of those dependable cravings that we all seek and enjoy. CASKET play a type of Death Metal that leans heavily on Chris Barnes era CANNIBAL CORPSE. You also get smatterings of FROZEN SOUL and maybe a more bouncier form of GRAVE. I add the bouncy descriptor because the overall sound is well-rounded and the bass is prominent, but it is more felt than heard. The songwriting approaches a more groovier form in the riffing and how the bass flows along with the riffing and maintains that basic approach throughout the album. The vocals are quite guttural and intertwine with the guitars and makes for a sound that can be bludgeoning at times (in a good way). There are plenty of moments that you can latch onto but also there are times of a d-beat pace and also some Thrash like qualities. If I can knock the band for anything it would be just that, basic. For much of the 40 minute runtime it can be a tad simplistic and repetitive in the songwriting dynamics department. On a side note their merch and the associated artwork is quite cool and well done and deserves a look. Plus they have one of the best rune style logos out there. I can see why some would get a tattoo of it. So to close this up, I know we can all dig into a meaty form of Death Metal that grabs and feeds our cravings for that moment. So if you are fans of this particular approach that is basic and well done, nothing more and nothing less.
