Frankly, I didn’t think I’d enjoy this so much! Mexico’s CATHARTIC worship the HM2 madness like it was part of their genetic code. Nothing wrong with that, but in “Through The Abysmal Gates Of Subconscious” they’ve managed to write a phenomenal 2022 HM2 worship album that ticks off all boxes. Killer vocals that draw you deep into the mire, relentless drumming that doesn’t reinvent the wheel. Riffs for days, I mean traditional riffs for days and finally everything’s put together quite well. I first stumbled across this release because I’m a huge fan of Dan Seagrave (of course, there’s a story of meeting him in Oslo, Norway and if I remember the band right, I missed watching BELPHEGOR to hang out and chat with him) and I usually check out the bands that he works with. Mexico’s CATHARTIC employed Dan’s artistic services and I ended up checking them out today. Anyway, to cut a long story short, this is quite well done HM2 worship, don’t enter into this cave expecting gifts from Santa, instead just sit back, turn the volume up and relax.
