CHRONOSPHERE comes from Athens, Greece, and they play Thrash Metal, the old school kind. Need to know more? Okay, fair enough then. Whether some history lessons of Thrash Metal should be in order or not but a cool thing about this Greek Thrash force known as CHRONOSPHERE is, that with minimum ingredients they have been capable of creating something appealing and ‘cool’ on their debut album, titled "Envirusment". You liked "Kill ‘Em All" once it came out back in 1983? You dug the hell out of "Bonded By Blood" in 1985, enjoying simply every bit of it with Paul Baloff’s probably a bit monotonous but still very classic vocals on top of it? And perhaps even could have stood Dave Mustaine’s snarly vocal lines on "Killing Is My Business…" in 1985? Well, if so nothing should stop you liking "Envirusment" either then because it has obviously borrowed more than just a thing or two from those 3 somewhat groundbreaking Thrash Metal albums of their times. To me, "Kill ‘Em All", "Bonded By Blood" and "Killing Is My Business…" were those three special album titles that crossed my mind after playing this disc one time after the other – in addition of something else that I really couldn’t put my finger precisely into. The bottom line however is, CHRONOSPHERE have done a deep bow towards the direction of their elder Thrash masters by getting inspired by their early works, which is something they should be ashamed of a bit at all. For example a song called ‘War Infection’ is total EXODUS worship of their early times from start to finish. Those fiercely blazing riffs especially, seem to be taken straight from Mr. Holt’s old box of song notes but then again that’s what we all love, right? Spyros Lafias on vocals (and on guitar as well) sounds as monotonous and raw as Mr. Baloff on "Bonded By Blood" back in the day but that’s what he should actually do in order to convince all of us about his dedication to the past times. "Envirusment" is about being retro as much as it’s about proving clearly enough that there’s some healthy sounding yet promising Thrash Metal bands coming out of Greece these days, just like CHRONOSPHERE.
