LITURGY OF DESECRATION
Eschatological Conflagration
(Fallen Temple)

Have you ever heard wet mud splattering on concrete? A distinctive dull sound, we all know it tends to be monotone and unassuming in any other form. That is the general impression that I get from LITURGY OF DESECRATION. Hailing from Athens, Greece and playing a form of War Metal in the vein of BLASPHEMY, BLACK WITCHERY and ARCHGOAT. LITURGY OF DESECRATION bring us their distinctive take to the genre. Believe me, I’m being generous on my views on the band. Much can be said (or not) when you make ARCHGOAT sound like RUSH in comparison, what we have here takes much of my wet mud analogy and places it firmly in your speakers. The “songs” leave much to be desired, leaving everything a bit of a chaotic mess. I was hard-pressed to make it through its 30min runtime. I tried on multiple occasions to get a fresh set of ears in the hope I was hearing things in the wrong mindset or maybe I blew my speakers when I blasting my last CD or something. It states this a collection of live rehearsals and due to its soundqualities I can vouch for that. It leaves us with a formless blur. Where shall I start? How about the various “mood inducing” instrumentals. Is someone attempting to tune their MIDI keyboard? I fail to see the evil qualities in this. Talk about lo-fi recorded in a bedroom production? We got you covered in spades, because the guitars are recorded with the guitarist in the closet and the door closed. And the bass? It’s in the basement. Now how about the vocals you ask. Various, croaks, growls and yells trying to be evil but it seems to be almost a parody. On their Bandcamp page, the band states, and I quote “Black Metal is not your safe space! Keep it underground! Keep it illegal! Keep it war!” Uuuhmm, okay, I guess I don’t qualify for anything that they are stating. I don’t know, maybe I’m not Dark or Evil enough to find this a must-have or even something to listen to repeatedly. I will admit some trepidation in writing this review because I’ve been doing this for a few years now, and I have never written an outright negative submission. I always look for “something” to latch onto or to give praise to because we are all Metalheads, right? Info follows, and maybe you can form your own thoughts on the band. https://liturgyofdesecration.bandcamp.com, www.facebook.com/fallentemple2
