Even though almost all good music has been made, and remade a couple of times, it is still great to stumble across a new band, kicking it with new energy and fresh intensity, even if old masters can be found as pure inspirational sources, for the music and delivery, as there isn’t anything bad in that, as long as I can feel the emotions the music are delivered with. A good friend of mine sent me this album last year, or perhaps even further ago, I gave it a couple of listens and forgot all about it, as it happens with most things I touch, because I’m too old, too cold and forgetful. Recently I stumbled across the CD again, while getting some albums in order, threw it into the player, and started tapping my feet and headbanging a tad. These Austrian lads are delivering energy-driven Death / Thrash Metal with a little splash of dark Black Metal evil in the mix, with base in good old masters as HELLHAMMER, CELTIC FROST, KREATOR, SODOM and the likes from the mid-80s extravaganza. A mid-paced dark frenzy of well-delivered guitar riffing and leads with emotion and intensity, heavy as fuck bass-rumblings and a backdrop of pummeling thunderous drumming. On top of that, perverted and possessed screams from the netherworlds. A well written and delivered homage to old times, with refueled intensity and a lust for occult darkness. This CD EP was released in 2015, and we haven’t heard much from CHURCH OF NECROLUST since, though they are in the middle of recording new material as we speak, if they aren’t done, I am looking quite much forward to that, after getting my affair with the Carinthians revived. And if you need a proof of the band’s excellence, just give the first track from the EP a spin, ‘Broken By A Priest’, as it is a tour de force of great classic Death / Thrash riffing, dark atmosphere, emotional guitar melodies, solid and cathching rhythm structures, gripping headbanging parts and insanely great vocals, and even heavier than thou moshparts.
