This Italian Metal band is quite new to scene and this (promo) debut “Lazareth Of The Abyss” is their first release (as far as I know). Their bio says they were “pullulating in the underground around 1990”, which means each member was involved with other bands that time. If you did your homework well, you might know Frank Well (bass / vocals) from MENTAL FUNGUS, guitarist / vocalist Moonbeam from SEJTANE and IBLIS and Mikk (guitars) from LEGION. The 8 tracks on “Lazaret… ” were written and recorded in 2009 / 2010 and their aim is to “spread old school Death / Thrash / Black Metal in the dying world”. To tell you the truth… the logo and cover of this promo look rather crappy so I was surprised when ‘Necropolis’ started and got my head moving up and down pretty fast. There is a certain constant groove and quality in how the songs are written, that it’s plain to hear were dealing with experienced musicians. The music is comparable with a ASPHYX, old INCUBATOR, maybe slower TORTURER, CADAVER’s “In Pains…” but with more melody. I would call it a mix of slower Death and (most of all) Thrash Metal and not only because of the production. Vocal-duty is occasionally dual layered and the only department that definately could be improved. Leads are awesome and the bass plays a more prominent role than usual thanks to the effective production. The snare drum sounds very dry and every hit sounds punishing, pretty cool. “Lazaret Of The Abyss” turned out to be very mature, enjoyable and sincere. A bit more fire (especially in the vocals) wouldn’t do any harm, but I guess this will be fixed on their following release. Just listen to ‘Ritual Incineration’… cool stuff!
