There are albums where everything is just right – except for the band name. Because in this case it sounds pretty ridiculous and rather suggests Gore or Fun Grind. But do not be fooled, the trio from Wolfsburg, Lower Saxony, serves up a release that can definitely be described as a serious German answer to EXHUMED. To get a cliché, “Tales Of The Undead” leaves no prisoners. The production and songwriting is so unbelievably tight, burning on all edges and corners. Idle running or breathing pause? No way, even the instrumental intro and outro are bursting with energy. Death Metal riffs that would make CANNIBAL CORPSE green with envy chases next after the next, while at the same time more classic Grindcore riffs sneak in again and again, especially when the tempo is, for a short point, slowed down. At some moments it even sounds a bit melodic in the vein of Swedish Death Metal. The drummer bludgeons everything to the ground, particularly the double bass parts are incredibly effective. On the vocals side we have a mixture of grunts and shrieks, whereby neither the one nor the other side gains the upper hand. After listening to “Tales Of The Undead” several times, only one question remained unanswered for me: how can it be that such an excellent band has so far flown completely under the radar? COCKROCK SADISTIC PETUS PENNYTRATION was founded by CockRock (drums), Sadistic Petus (guitar, vocals) and Pennytration (vocals) back in 2016 and they already released two albums. Hopefully with this release they get the attention they deserve.
