I came across CORPSE VOMIT (Chicago) simply per chance by checking out some Death Metal MP3’s on www.mp3.com, I liked their faster and more brutal interpretation of the AUTOPSY-style and the voice of Matt McClelland, who varies excellently between Chris Reifert’s screaming and the deep growls of Glen Benton – killer job, man!!! I contacted the band and Matt sent me the CD and a wonderful sticker – thanks again! Well, my first impression that those sickheads are worshippers of AUTOPSY was right, but there was one thing I had overseen – their love for chaotic, hectic songstructures. Although CORPSE VOMIT get their own individual note from that, plus their inventive riffing, it is also their biggest problem, because most songs stay immemorable. Also the coverart would have better fitted to a gay band like BLIND GUARDIAN, but anyway, that is all I would like to criticise on this release. If you think chaos is brutal or have a faible for AUTOPSY, INCANTATION, NECROVORE or MACABRE then this should be a great album for you, it is 100% old school, no doubt about that, the production is excellent and the whole CD has a sick, disgusting feeling, but I had problems with the hectic songwriting, sorry guys! Give CORPSE VOMIT a chance, they deserve it in my eyes, because compared with most bands that today run under the banner of old school Death Metal, CORPSE VOMIT unleash their stuff straight from heart and with a merciless intensity that might convince you there in front of the PC reading this fucking review!!!
