Very few are the bands able to follow the way paved by the classic Bay Area Thrash bands of the 80s, and DIVINE:DECAY is one of them. Coming from Finland, these five dudes (now they are six, with a full three guitarists squadron!) cannot be connected with the Neo Thrash wave coming from Sweden, for the better I am hasting myself to add. "Maximize The Misery" is a hell of an album, rich in crunchy riffs and frenzied speed. The sound comes out extremely satisfying and replenishing, as DIVINE:DECAY have achieved to capture the atmosphere of the days of yore with an up-to-date production. Singer Alec (who handles a part of the guitar work also) uses a range that may evoke a cross between James Hetfield and Chuck Billy, he sounds good but should be aware to add a little more of madness in his vocal delivery, because on some occasions he gives the impression to be not directly involved by the lyrics. DIVINE:DECAY’s music could be seen as a mix between METALLICA, TESTAMENT and VIO-LENCE, but with an obvious care for melody certainly inherited for their fellows of the Finnish scene, the guitar solos in particular give away this concern. The overall mood of the album is on the dark side of life, and from what I can deduce from the song titles, the lyrics are of the introspective kind. But don’t expect depressive music, the rage is ever present on this disc. To sum it up: an excellent release, worth to be added in your collection, but I am sure DIVINE:DECAY will come with an even better album next time! I don’t have a direct URL to reach these guys, so go to: www.osmoseproductions.com to get further details.
