DRUDENSANG has been on my radar and playlist for quite a while now. The main two reasons are that they remind me of a THRONE OF KATARSIS. Secondly, the band members share a similar image, the former is dark, evil and satanic, whereas DRUDENSANG seems to possess more mysticism and occult qualities, primarily in the songs themselves. Another fact is that, like THRONE OF KATARSIS, they have a truly legit second-wave quality in their sound, and it just takes me back to those days. The production is suitably cold and harsh. It is not a warm, happy, bombastic sound of say DIMMU BORGIR, but it is the musicianship and the songwriting that evoke said atmosphere. I think this because not too many bands give me that feeling of those bygone days. I also truly love the imagery because I can picture them and the artwork in the old school print zines or one of the abundance of ads / flyers we would receive. When I listen to this release and also their previous effort “Tuiflsrijtt”, it reminds me much of early SETHERIAL and LIMBONIC ART. I say this because their music definitely has that dark epic feel and not the grim and evil of, say GORGOROTH. The problem I may have, and I realize this, nostalgia can be a dangerous thing and may make you turn a blind eye or ear to the overall quality of the band. I will accept that fact, but I also dare you to take a listen to this EP at a perfect 30 minutes and tell me you would not be taken with the songwriting. Just listen to the atmosphere, or should I say the grandeur of track # 7, which truly is representative of their overall stylistic approach. If you are new to the genre and you’ve always heard or read about the dark past, take a listen. If you were there and know, truly know, I feel that DRUDENSANG deserves your time and praise. www.facebook.com/drudensang, www.facebook.com/folterrecordsgermany
