Although such a comparison might seem far-fetched FROSTHARDR’s first MCD is in fact close to the mighty SATYRICON. Of course this young Norwegian band has not reached the level of experience and skill of their inspirators yet, but in terms of musical variety, atmosphere and style FROSTHARDR catched a good start and come across like a mixture of "The Shadowthrone" and "Volcano". The first of the three tracks offered here (plus intro and outro) is the most traditional Black Metal song on "Makteslos", offering standard up-tempo and moody, suitable keyboard parts before culminating in a twisted break that would have fit well on SATYRICON’s last effort, a grim, dark, diversified and capturing track. The second song ‘Death = My Relief’ unfortunately shows FROSTHARDR’s weaker side, because they do not only surprise with clean vocals, but also add a totally unfitting section of Death Metal growling, ruining the song’s interesting beginning and dissipating almost 9 mintues of playing time. The third over 9 minutes long piece of music entitled ‘Ravneskrik’ makes me smile again and stands totally in the heavily SATYRICON, KVIST inspired tradition of the first song, lots of tempo variation, fascinating dark atmosphere, an excellent closing track compensating the dissapointing second song. Intro and outro are absolutely superfluuous, but two of the three songs FROSTHARDR offer on their debut release let the band’s huge potential glimmer like beams of light through encompassing darkness and make me wish for more stuff like this soon. Be sure to check this out!!! The Momentum Scandinavia website is still in the works, so is the FROSTHARDR homepage, but nonetheless I will put the links down here so you can check them from time to time: www.momentumscandinavia.com, www.frosthardr.com
