The Spanish Death / Doom Metal band released their second full length album “God Has No Name” in 2019 on Transcending Obscurity Records, which was my first encounter with them. At least the first encounter I can remember. I wasn’t too impressed with the album, I found it lacking some coherence. It had all the right elements, though the songs weren’t tied well together, too many missing bridges between decent elements and so on. I didn’t have too many expectations for this new 3 track 20 minute EP from the band. Though it sounds like the band has been busy, honing their songwriting skills, as the music works much better now. There’s a natural flow throughout the songs, tying it all well together, and taking in the listener. It is quite classical Death / Doom Metal, taking me back to the early nineties, as we, or at least I don’t stumble across that often these days, so it is actually quite refreshing to get 3 tracks as these served. The atmosphere is dark and somber – and we are getting hit hard as soon as the melancholically piano intro is over. Heavy down tuned guitars, rumbling rhythm patterns, dark intensity, and a deep guttural growl. The double bass drumming is commanding, while the lead guitar weeps along the melancholic growls. There are some good pace shifts and progressions, progressions that work as great bridges between the different parts and ties the knot! “Behold The Unlighted” has taken me in – the dark and haunting atmosphere is working really well, there are some great guitar riffing and -leads, the rhythm patterns are kept simple and effective as the dark and fathomless backdrop, with some great progressions here and there. The vocal work is good, the main vocal is ace, and the variations are giving good effects. A strong and haunting EP!
