When some Norwegians make the rare decision to play furious old school Thrash Metal, they either do it right, with full energy and passion, or not at all. It seems if they want or not, they even add a good portion of evil blackness to their sound. “Morbid Origin”, the third album by INCULTER from Fusa, somewhere above Bergen, impresses with that type of sound which does not just simply suggest associations with the eighties sound, but rather forces the listener to! In a very positive sense, of course. With songs like the album-opener ‘Death Reigns’, ‘Chained To The Void’ or ‘Children Of Demise’, these three Norwegians – who have no permanent bass player at the moment and therefore had to fall back on session musicians – manage to conjure up some old “Ride The Lightning” spirit. Together with a lot of scratchy, nebulous and really evil undertones which are familiar to “Seasons In The Abyss” and “Beneath The Remains”. Not without displaying a rather unique and skilled songwriting style that likes to act in slow mid-tempo, opening rooms for melodic parts that are deeply rooted in classic Metal as well as the opportunity to hit the gas. You can hear them in songs like the hypnotic ‘Perennial Slaves’, the title track or the final melodically riffed crazy race ‘Lethal Salvation’, which probably illustrates the musical quantum leap the band has made since its predecessor “Fatal Visions”. Surprising record, that is how Thrash Metal should sound like! Go and buy it, if you like the old METALLICA, SLAYER and SEPULTURA (I mean, who doesn’t?). www.facebook.com/inculter, www.facebook.com/edgedcircleproductions
