INSIDIOUS OMEN
Anointed With The Blood Of Chaos

There is something beautifully anachronistic about the Canadian Black Metal duo INSIDIOUS OMEN who present us their third official release after the “Upon This Throne Of Waste And Decay” album in ’06 and an EP in ’08: there is this rudimentary, uncompromisingly raw and cavernous, primitive feel of very, very old Black Metal that one considers almost impossible to recreate nowadays but INSIDIOUS OMEN do that quite well. Combining it with the ambience of being buried alive in a very, very dark tomb, the three 8-10min long songs succeed in evoking a really strong and captivating aura that is actually hard to resist. Musically, however, INSIDIOUS OMEN are nothing more than conventional: endlessly repeated chords and riffs, snarls, howls, fast drumming, some slower passages, filthy sound, an emotional mixture of utter despair and utter hatefulness – it’s a bit of a yawn. Yet, there is subliminal quality and profound gloom hidden amongst all these boring basics: it’s the heavy, nicely rumbling production and overall so incredibly consistent atmosphere seeping through “Anointed With The Blood Of Chaos” that makes this MCD definitely interesting for Black Metal extremists and its standardized song structures and sonic elements forgettable.
