KING CARNAGE
Ounce Of Mercy, Pound Of Flesh

The band, or precisely said project KING CARNAGE is the brainchild of The Left Hand, a.k.a. Patrick Brown. The Left Hand is a San Francisco based guy who formerly played guitar in more unknown bands like LIGEIA (where he did the vocals as well) and NEPENTHE. In his recent band he does everything himself: all instruments, singing, recording and even artwork. This is really a way of the typical do it yourself attitude that screams Punk Rock to me. And listening to "Ounce Of Mercy, Pound Of Flesh", it’s the typical "Fuck Off!" attitude, the middle finger high in the air that screams Punk Rock, too. But musically, the album screams Death Metal! Pure, raw, old fashioned and extremely distorted. The guitar sound even sounds more than distorted, for it seems to be destroyed on purpose. First I thought of an error with the stuff Frank gave me, but after checking back badGod Musics bandcamp, I’m sure that this sound is meant to be that way. I really want to know how this sound was created… Did Mr. Brown use bass effects on the guitars? I really don’t know. But this in combination with the middle finger in the air makes "Ounce Of Mercy, Pound Of Flesh" a diamond in the raw. The main influences of KING CARNAGE can be found in early Death Metal, bands like OBITUARY, old CELTIC FROST and the slower stuff from AUTOPSY shimmer through more than once. From the grooving uptempo opener ‘Blade Efficacy’ to the gloomy, somehow progressive ‘Scion’s Salvation (The Flesh Foundry)’ over the quite sick title track and the creepy instrumental ‘Archetype Of Evil’ to the final bloodbath ‘Making Angels In Blood’ – quality is the order of the day!
