Released in late 2009, this split between Hungarian band NADIR, and fellow countrymen DIM VISION, is a wedding of two styles as much as it is a split between talented bands. The NADIR side of the release might strike some die-hard underground supporters as downright unpalatable, but that’s their failing, not NADIR’s. Love it or hate it, they’re loud and proud. In fact, I would postulate that they are, at least objectively, more interesting than DIM VISION because they actively try to push Death Metal in different directions. True, such attempts often signal their own failure by landing on the covers of such magazines as Terrorizer or Revolver, but try to ignore the ugly reputation that precedes the core genres. AT THE GATES was arguably a Deathcore band in their waning years, and they were at their peak then. NADIR is not quite the equal of AT THE GATES, but they’ll approach that pedestal if they keep a steady release schedule. As of now, they have a new album out called "Eco-Ethic", available for free download. DIM VISION, the other side of the split, is not to be ignored simply because they are more straightforward Death Metal, however. Many of us prefer re-visiting old locales in music, and DIM VISION aggressively punts the listener backwards at least ten years, to the beginnings of HATE ETERNAL and mid-career GORGUTS.
