Indiana-based NECRODEMON is a quite odd bird in the big Metal tree. The band has been around since 1998 (after LORDES WERE called it quits) and managed to release a bunch of releases on their own label Reaper Records. The band’s latest 6-track EP, titled “Reclamation Of The Stygian Throne” was already released in 2009, introducing NECRODEMON basically a straightforward and raw sounding Thrash / Death / Black Metal act, which basically does not give a shit about current trends or anything that may be a fashion thing among the Metal worldwide community. NECRODEMON have always had some sort of fascination toward wolves, werewolves, lycanthropy and other highly popular Hollywood film industry themes that have fed people’s imagination since the days of TV was invented. Music-wise – as mentioned earlier, NECRODEMON trust the sounds of old school, creating their blackened Thrash / Death Metal out of somewhat simple and primitive ingredients – and partly even succeeding to catch listeners’ attention, I suppose. However, I know it may be a bit rough to say but unfortunately the stuff on this EP sounds like they have recorded all these 6 songs in their rehearsal room by some 4-track recorder while having their weekly band practice session going on. This recording lacks definitely a good production, therefore also eating up some vital, carrying power of the songs that would be so necessary to make the songs to stand out better than they do on this otherwise pretty enjoyable EP. If they just tied up a good production with the stuff they do, that would obviously help them to gain more listeners for the band, no doubts. ‘Serpent’s Breath (Chant Of Making VII)’, which is an instrumental song, is the one that grabbed my attention best out of these 6 tracks being featured for the EP. It’s a mid-paced song, reminding me of early SLAYER with some killer, catchy riffing in it. Also the next song ‘Witch Hunt’ that comes right after the instrumental track, appealed me quite much. It’s a mid-paced heavy fucker also, following loyally some of those traditions for having that extreme old school Metal sound nicely captured into it. This is not such a bad release by any means, but would have needed some improvements production-wise in order to stick to our minds better than just some so-so release in the end.
