From the UK, a one man Black Metal band… how original you should say… well, this is actually one of the best one man bands I have heard in long time, no matter what style. Even the drums, which are programmed, sound quite good, but with the limitations that can be achieved with those. Musically speaking the brand of Black Metal presented here, is heavy guitar driven, quite melodic at times, and mostly doomy or mid-paced although there are some bursts of speed. I tried to compare the sound to some other bands, but it was hard. They sound like a suicidal Black Metal band on steroids, and that is probably the most accurate description of the overall sound. Maybe some early KATATONIA will be a good reference, and I can smell some early BURZUM influence, although this is far superior both in execution and arrangements. Sometimes I feel the vocals are not actually saying a damn thing, as they are way very morbid, but they are quite enjoyable. As many Black Metal bands in a similar style, it is obvious that some riffs tend to repeat over and over in some sort of trance inducting ritual, and if you are a fast Metal freak this can drive you a bit insane in desperation. Also, most of the songs are lengthy ones, none less than five minutes. One of the best songs in this disc, and the most representative of the quality here is ‘Necronoclast’ (yes, as the band’s name). Although it is a song in the eight minute mark, it does possess quite a variety of moods, yet not being boring, and while sounding suicidal and depressive, it also does sound powerful. A nice choice to have a good production rather than a lousy thin guitar sound as some other pretenders use in similar style. If the sole member once decides to use a human drummer (to add more human emotion to the depressive sound) and just cranks a bit more the guitars up, they will reign in the realm of depressive melodic Black Metal.
