From the first bass line of the instrumental opener ‘Rising Evil’ IRON MAIDEN will be an immediate association when putting on Colombia’s originally 2004 released debut “High Speed Venom”, which was recently put out on wax via Teutonia’s Heavy Forces. Steve Harris tone and influence aside, riffing-wise JUDAS PRIEST and due to the soaring vocals 80s HELLOWEEN appear in your metalized brain within a split second, too. While the amazing cover complete with Flying V, a snake, skulls and car-racing font alongside the slightly imperfect lyrics cannot belie a touch of carefree naivety, the compact and effective songwriting, nice dual leads, to-the-point guitar work and authentic sound turn “High Speed Venom” into a truly charming and utterly enjoyable “Heavy Metal Outbreak”. From fist-pumping mid-tempo stompers to faster, never Speed Metallish headbangers this album pushes all the necessary buttons to cause a wave of 80s nostalgia swallowing you and it fits just nicely between a CAULDRON, ALPHA TIGER or ENFORCER platter and wins me over by being even a little less calculated and more primordial. A certain exotic bonus cannot be ignored as well. Overall, no Heavy Metal maniac digging for obscure gems from the global underground will be able to resist NIGHTMARE and the flawless packaging (300g sleeve, 140g vinyl, cardboard full coloured innersleeve, A2 poster, sticker) and price of a mere 13,00€ are further arguments to check this out.
