Götz schould already have done enough research in his interview when it comes to all necessary backing information on these guys, so we can go straight into the music of this record. Basically I would define their style as raw Black Metal, but that’s a little too simple here as NOCTUARY are neither playing the typical Scandinavian type, nor do they use the wimpy, mainly kinda Gothic sounding keyboards. And no, unlike a current fashion, they don’t mix Death or old school Thrash Metal with Black Metal either. NOCTUARY’s roots obviously go back way more as they combine traditional Heavy Metal riffing and leads with the intensity and aggression of today’s Black Metal. In the first place I found this combination rather strange, but the more I listen to it, the more I get used to the material. But don’t worry too much, in case you can’t stand ordinary Metal at all and think of it as cheesy or whatever (shame on you!), this is by no means like all those acts. This is mainly raw and right into your face type stuff, only performed by musicians who know their instruments a little better than the usual corpsepainted fellows. Kinda like as if good ol’ Quorthon would have replaced Paul Di’Anno in IRON MAIDEN back in the early 80s and infected Steve Harris and company with some more aggression in the songwriting.
