Another great output from Everlasting Spew Records in 2018. Seems to be a pretty successful year for this Italian Death / Grind and everything evil label. They delighted me this year already with the GALVANIZER, ASSUMPTION, VALGRIND and VOID ROT records, to name a few of their releases in 2018. All of them are pretty heavy and grim. “Aphotik” is no exception. This record has it all. Brutally heavy and doomish, disharmonic, technically great and with a voice which seems to come straight from the deepest vaults of 90s Death Metal. The sound is very clear and works perfectly with the different styles and techniques used on “Aphotik”. The album provides a range from old school Death D-Beat to stone aged blasting as well as psychedelic and UK like atmospheric shredding down to your medulla. The UK stench comes definitely with the mastering job on “Aphotik” which was done by Imindain and CRUCIAMENTUM’s Dan Lowndes at his Resonance Sound Studio. Giving the record the extra atmosphere of bleak bitterness. PSYCHOTOMY created an album which is an entertaining fall into their aphotic. It provides surprising moments and grim atmosphere to drown in. Challenging and insightful. A great enjoyment.
