After a decade of activity (mainly as a studio project that made either only a single live performance or a few), around 10 demos and nearly as many split releases, TERRORAZOR present their debut full length album. As one could guess from seeing the band’s moniker – TERRORAZOR’s musical direction is old school Grindcore, inspired by the likes of REPULSION, the Canadian SLAUGHTER (the references in the tracks ‘No Salvation’ and ‘Orgy Of Luxuria’ are rather obvious), BLOOD, old NAPALM DEATH and, obviously, TERRORIZER. Whether the reason for the decision to make a proper album has to do something with the fact that TERRORAZOR expanded its line-up from a 1-man project (started by Daniel aka Avenger from NOCTURNAL, FRONT BEAST, THE FOG and too many other bands to mention) to a trio or not, the result can be definitely called an upgrade, especially when it comes to the drums. Hell, these drums (both the playing ability and the greatly balanced organic sound) are second only to Pete Sandoval’s work in “World Downfall”. No joke, Skullsplitter has done an amazing work here – he has the skill, the precision and, most important – lots of feel. Most of the time – the drumming gets as intense as humanly possible, yet without sounding mechanical for a second. When it comes to guitars – those who are familiar with Avenger’s other projects know that he doesn’t disappoint when it comes to riffs. There is no shortage of great, memorable riffs here and the occasional hyper fast solos are rather cool as well. The vocals are nothing to complain about, either – whoever that fella “Cryptkeeper” is – he surely sounds genuinely pissed and his voice fits the music just fine. With all due respect to TERRORAZOR’s older stuff, the new drummer and vocalist make the difference between “cool” and “totally killer”. When all is said and done, “Abysmal Hymns Of Disgust” is not just a tribute to Grindcore’s finest bands, but a well written, well performed and well produced album in its own right.
