What an inferno! THY INFERNAL hail with totally blasphemous Black Metal from start to finish. These guys from the USA perfectly know how to perform a real devastating whirlwind of crushing tunes. Pure Armageddon! After their MCD “Satan’s Wrath” this is their first real longplayer (and by the way the strongest album released by Napalm Records in their younger history). The common Metal press as e.g. the German Rock Hard will compare THY INFERNAL with their Swedish colleagues DARK FUNERAL, SETHERIAL and MARDUK as they are somewhere within the same style of Black Metal. But as both MARDUK and DARK FUNERAL are regarded as somewhat of unimpeachable heroes in todays scene a very important detail in difference will most likely be neglected by the media (in order not to utter the slightiest criticism about the hero): besides the uncompromising aggression THY INFERNAL sound way more fresh, honest, playful, entertaining and most of all less modern and mainstream. What catches the ear right during the first listen is the fact that every (!!!) song has got quite its very own face and character although they are of course altogehter within a range of the same style. This is in my opinion the main difference to the ones mentioned above as the songs of these Swedish fellows sound too safe, predictable and wellknown. In contrast to them THY INFERNAL still have the right feeling for good, eventful and varied songwriting. Each tune contains a heavy doze of recallable melodies mixed with sheer brutality and the right haunting atmosphere and soul. Moreover you find some slight influences of other styles in (Black) Metal melted skillfully into their sound. Take for example the third song ‘Wolfstorm’ that opens with a tune the Norwegian IMMORTAL could not have done better during their “Pure Holocaust” period – a powerful crusher. Or ‘Immortal Satanic Spirit’, where a really beautiful melody is interweaved in sheer aggression that you first cannot imagine both being combined. Next song ‘Night Of The Full Moon’ is a powerful mid tempo crusher also enriched with nice melody lines. Ever song is bristling with guitar solos and aggressive vocals (that remind me on the ones of Australian BESTIAL WARLUST on their debut album here and there). The sound production is absolutly fitting, it leaves room enough for the details in songwriting without being too polished or clean. Concerning the lyrical concept THY INFERNAL follow the usual clishés, Satan here and there and everywhere… A cover artwork of Joe Petagno is not that original either. Apart from that done with class!!!
