In November 2025, WALDGEFLÜSTER present a monumental and ambitious work divided into two distinct parts: “Knochengesänge” and “Knochengesänge II”. This double album (which will be released as two separate discs) is a nearly two-hour journey into the melancholic and layered heart of the German band, an exploration of the light and darkness that defines their sound. Here we will focus on “Knochengesänge”, while “Knochengesänge II” will be the subject of another specific review. With “Knochengesänge”, WALDGEFLÜSTER continue their acclaimed musical journey, delivering a work that is the pure essence of their sound. This album is a powerful and immersive journey into German style atmospheric Black Metal. “Knochengesänge” is an album rooted in the style that made the band famous. It is a work of epic atmospheric Black Metal, steeped in deep Folk and Post Rock influences. The music is aggressive, but always incredibly layered and melodic. The guitars create dense and melancholic soundscapes, shifting from sharp riffs to more dreamy arpeggiated moments that evoke ancient forests and a deep connection with nature. The drums powerfully support the structure, alternating furious blast beats with more cadenced and reflective rhythms that allow the atmospheres to breathe. Vocally, the performance is charged with pathos. The vocals range effortlessly from the band’s trademark anguished screams to clean baritone singing and even deep growls, used to accentuate the emotional charge of the songs. The tracks, often long and elaborate, are saturated with deep emotional resonance. Tracks such as ‘Krähenpsalme’ immediately set a sombre and majestic tone, drawing the listener into a vortex of introspection and melancholy. “Knochengesänge” is an album that confirms WALDGEFLÜSTER’s mastery. It does not seek to revolutionise the formula, but to perfect it. It is an emotional and exciting album that speaks to the heart and spirit through a language of light and shadow. For fans of bands such as AGALLOCH, PANOPTICON or SAOR, this album is essential listening. It is a mature, intense and beautifully produced work that represents an excellent continuation of WALDGEFLÜSTER’s artistic journey.
