I’ve stated before in previous reviews that I’m not a fan of solo projects. There are always deficiencies in songwriting and / or quality, and I will leave it at that. With that being said, the latest release from HYBRIS unfortunately continues my bleak outlook. It’s stated in the band bio being a Grindcore band, and I only hear that in a basic sense, and maybe the lyrical approach as well. What we have here is a garage band sounding a bit like TERRORIZER with some moments of NAPALM DEATH. I would say there is also touches of the first INFESTDEAD as well. Everything is as basic as it gets and not really much in the hooks department, and / or anything that I will remember after a listen or two. I realize that it’s a one-person operation, so when listening to this, having an open mind is crucial. The production is flat and one-dimensional, and the bass is largely absent. Maybe for the exception of the intro and outro on the song ‘Depopulate’. One main gripe is the vocals. They are recorded or maybe processed differently because they sound a bit off. I dislike being so negative at times, but I find this a bit hard to get into. I will leave with one positive though. The interesting cover art. Now that is Grindcore. I love the imagery and the tones used. Try before you buy. www.instagram.com/hybris_grindcore, www.facebook.com/greatdanerecords
