The Descent
(Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions)

Rewritten and re-recorded songs from the band’s first two albums “Bathyscape” and “Thooi”, is what we get on SKAPHOS’ first release on Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions. The two mentioned releases have been released by the band back in 2020 and 2022 – and are quite strong releases. I was wondering why it took a few years for the band to gain attention from labels. Though last year it happened and Transcending Obscurity released the band’s third full length “Cult Of Uzura”, which must have created a little stir, in the murky waters, as Les Acteurs De L’Ombre Productions now has picked up the band. Massive sound and dissonant guitar riffs and intense all-out attack. Sombre atmospheres from the abyss and whatever hides down there, in the dark vortex. The music is complex and pounding, Black Metal riffing and dissonant harmonies with an IMMOLATION feel to it at times. At same time quite old school and modern, with some of the groovier build ups. SKAPHOS is inspired by the works of the great H.P. Lovecraft, which is obvious when having a look at the band’s artwork from the very beginning. That and other mysteries hidden beneath the waves, here or in mythical worlds are driving the dark atmosphere. On that point the band hits it straight on. The music is dark, mysterious and discomforting. I don’t know how much I can recognize of the original songs in the rewritten versions. Though that doesn’t matter much, as “Descent” is a quite strong album on its own. I could continue to write dark and disturbing, about the output – though it is so much more – if you dare to enter the Innsmouth and seek out the Esoteric Order Of Dagon you’ll might find out for yourself, if choosing the right path: www.facebook.com/skaphosofficiel, www.facebook.com/ladloproductions
